What is a Breast Biopsy / Lumpectomy
Is a diagnostic test involving the removal of abnormal breast or cancerous breast tissue leaving a rim of normal tissue called a surgical margin. The tissue that is removed is examined under a microscope to diagnosis or confirm breast cancer. This procedure may also be referred to as a wide local excision, a segmental resection or a partial mastectomy. This procedure preserves the rest of the breast as well as the sensation in the breast.
